Oba Kehinde Falodun, The monarch of Agamọ Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State has been killed by suspected bandits.
This is according to local sources and police confirmation.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening when about ten armed men stormed the palace in an attempt to abduct the traditional ruler.
The source said Oba Falodun resisted the attack.
When bullets allegedly failed to penetrate, the assailants struck him on the head with a heavy object, resulting in his death.
Confirming the incident, Mr Abayomi Jimoh, Police Public Relations Officer of Ondo State, said an investigation has commenced.
According to him,“the victim was later found a few metres away with gunshot wounds and confirmed dead at the scene.”
Security operatives, including local hunters, Atuluse Security, and Amotekun, have been deployed to comb surrounding areas in search of the perpetrators.
Police assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects and that monitoring and surveillance across the area have been intensified.
The attack comes just weeks after bandits targeted Ayede Community in the same local government area, abducting a pregnant woman, Mrs Mary Jesulayomi, who was later released after a ransom was reportedly paid.
Following that, 12 men suspected of banditry were arrested by Amotekun.
Residents have expressed growing concern over insecurity in Akure North, calling on authorities to strengthen security measures to restore peace in the affected communities.
