Two people have died after two fully loaded 40-foot container trucks collided along the Cele inward axis of the Oshodi–Apapa expressway, Mile 2, Lagos.
Adebayo Taofiq, director of public affairs at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, confirmed that the driver of one of the trucks and a suspected trespasser were killed in the crash.
According to him, the driver was trapped inside the cabin and later extricated by rescue officials, while the second victim was recovered from beneath one of the trucks.
Meanwhile, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, said preliminary findings showed that one of the moving trucks rammed into another stationary truck due to excessive speed.
He added that both the driver and his assistant were confirmed dead at the scene.
Also, officials from LASEMA, LASTMA and the Ilasa Police Division coordinated recovery efforts and traffic control to prevent further incidents.
Authorities have urged articulated vehicle operators to comply strictly with speed regulations and safety rules to avert similar tragedies.
