The Anambra State police command has arrested a second suspect linked to a kidnapping and armed robbery case in Awka, where a ransom of ₦1 million was reportedly paid.
According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police public relations officer, 32-year-old Ifeanyi Ekemezie was apprehended on February 17, 2026, at Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area.
This newspaper reports that his arrest follows the February 13 detention of 33-year-old Ndubuisi Anyakaku, whose bank account allegedly received the ransom.
The case stems from a December 31, 2025 attack in Amansea, Awka North, during which the victim was shot in the leg, kidnapped, and had his Toyota Highlander stolen.
A total of ₦3 million was reportedly transferred from the victim’s account.
He was later rescued by authorities.
Ikenga said Ekemezie admitted to being part of a three-man gang involved in kidnapping and car theft, and to membership of the Vikings Confraternity, taking part in cult-related killings in Awka.
Police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other gang members and recover weapons.
