The Benue State Police Command has deployed the Police Air Wing and additional tactical teams to strengthen security and tackle banditry in the state.

According to DSP Udeme Edet, the Command’s spokesperson, four suspected kidnappers were arrested following the rescue of nine children abducted during a night vigil at St. John Catholic Church, Ojeji, Ado Local Government Area.

On February 11, 2026, operatives of the Ado Division arrested two suspects, Abubakar Jibril and Ashiru Ibrahim, in possession of five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

The suspects were handed over to the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for further investigation.

Following follow-up intelligence, the IRT and state tactical teams raided Ashiru Ibrahim’s hideout on February 14, recovering an AK-47 rifle, eight rounds of ammunition, and arresting two more suspects linked to the kidnapping syndicate.

The Police Command confirmed that the suspects were directly involved in the church abduction and assured the public that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia commended the security agencies for the timely intervention, noting that the rescued children—six girls and three boys—were receiving care and support.

He emphasised that security is vital for development and pledged continued collaboration with federal agencies and community leaders to maintain peace in the state.
