President Bola Tinubu has approved the payment of all the allowances and match bonuses the authorities owe the Super Falcons ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.
Shehu Dikko, chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), announced the payment in a statement on Thursday.
According to Dikko, the Super Falcons have been “paid all their allowances and match bonuses”, including the one needed for the WAFCON final match against Morocco on Saturday.
The NSC Chairman explained that the payment was made on Wednesday, July 23 to avoid “delay, dispute, unnecessary distractions or drama”.
“Mr President has also directed the NFF through my office to ensure that all players receive their due entitlements before the close of business on Friday, 25th July 2025, except if the players themselves decide otherwise. That is the expectation. No delays. No issues,” the statement read.
The Super Falcons, having defeated South Africa 2-1 in the semi-final with a late goal from Gloria Alozie are chasing their 10th WAFCON trophy.
The Nigerian women’s team will face the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday at 9 pm.
The Super Falcons will hope to get one over the Atlas Lionesses because the last time both teams met each other in the competition, Morocco beat the Falcons 5-4 on penalties in the 2022 WAFCON semi-finals.
