President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed plans to establish state police as part of efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.

Tinubu spoke on Monday night during an inter-faith breaking of fast with governors and senior officials at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja.

According to him, the federal government will “establish state police to combat insecurity in our local governments.”

He expressed optimism about the economy, stating that reforms introduced by his administration are beginning to yield results at both federal and state levels.

“The result of hard work is more work. But as long as we bridge together and move together and determine to rescue this country, the best is yet to come to Nigeria,” he said.

Tinubu called for unity, sacrifice and sustained collaboration between the Federal Government and state governors.

He commended governors for their commitment to delivering on electoral promises and praised youth empowerment and grassroots development efforts in some states.

Addressing Babagana Zulum, Borno governor, Tinubu highlighted the importance of discipline, faith and perseverance in governance.

Hope Uzodimma, Imo governor, who spoke on behalf of the Nigeria governors’ forum chairman, applauded the President’s reform agenda and efforts to foster national unity.

According to Uzodimma, the administration has introduced policies that allow states to operate more effectively, including tax reforms and fiscal interventions.

He said, “we will continue to partner with you. We pray for strength and wisdom as you navigate the affairs of the country.”

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and several cabinet members were also in attendance.

The gathering marked the third consecutive year Tinubu has hosted governors for a Ramadan fast-breaking event at the Presidential Villa.
