A fire broke out on Monday at the old terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The affected terminal, currently undergoing renovation, was engulfed in flames, prompting an immediate response from emergency teams.
However, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed that there were no casualties.
Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, said officials were on site managing the situation.
According to him, “we are aware of the outbreak, and we are there right now. Our firefighting team is currently responding and working to curtail the situation. No loss of lives has been recorded. Further updates will be issued.”
Passengers and airport users were advised to remain calm as officials work to fully extinguish the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
This newspaper reports that the old terminal is part of MMIA’s older infrastructure being upgraded to improve passenger experience, and FAAN assured that emergency protocols were promptly activated to prevent further damage.
A video of the fire has circulated online, showing the scale of the blaze as emergency responders battled the flames.
