The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 20 suspects over alleged vote buying during the federal capital territory council polls.
The anti-graft agency disclosed that the suspects were apprehended for offences ranging from vote buying and vote selling to obstruction of electoral officers, involving a total sum of ₦17,218,700.
This was contained in a statement signed by Dele Oyewale, its head of media and publicity.
This newspaper reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission conducted chairmanship and councillorship elections across the six area councils of the FCT on Saturday.
The statement reads partly, “one of the suspects was arrested with a sum of ₦13,500,000 in a car parked beside a polling booth in the Kwali Local Government Area.
“Two of the suspects were arrested in Abaji; nine in Gwagwalada; four in Kuje, and the remaining four in Kwali.”
According to the EFCC, the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
