The Ondo state police command has arrested 10 suspected kidnappers and recovered ransom money during operations in Akure, the state capital.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s public relations officer disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended on Monday during a joint raid by the anti-kidnapping section and operatives of the police mobile force deployed to Ondo road.
Jimoh said the operation led to the recovery of an operational motorcycle and ransom cash, including burnt currency notes now documented as exhibits.
“The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of 10 suspects believed to be connected to a kidnapping syndicate. During the operation, an operational motorcycle and ransom money were recovered,” the statement read.
He added that the suspects had made confessional statements detailing their alleged roles within the syndicate.
The police spokesman said investigations were ongoing to unravel the full scope of the group’s activities and to apprehend other accomplices still at large.
Adebowale Lawal, the commissioner of police reassured residents of the command’s commitment to eliminating kidnapping and violent crimes across the state.
In a related development, the command had earlier arrested two other suspects over separate kidnapping incidents in Sabo Sango and Ilado Community in Akure North local government area.
