The Borno State Police Command says it has recovered 912 rounds of B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm) ammunition in Maiduguri.
A statement by Nahum Daso, the command’s spokesman, said the cache was discovered in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of the state capital on January 4, 2026.
“The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has recorded another significant operational breakthrough in its sustained efforts to enhance public safety and security across the state,” Daso said.
“At about 1400hrs, the Divisional Police Officer, Lamisula Division, acting on credible intelligence, led a team of police operatives to Kumshe Jamba Mari area, Maiduguri, where a hidden cache of ammunition was discovered.”
Following standard operational procedures, the Department of Explosive Ordnance Disposal was immediately deployed to the scene.
“The area was professionally cordoned off, and a total of 912 rounds of B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm) ammunition were safely recovered,” the police PPRO said.
Daso said the recovered ammunition has been secured while investigations continue to trace its source, intended use, and apprehend those responsible.
The spokesman added that CP Naziru Abdulmajid commended members of the public for their timely and useful information.
“He further urges residents to continue partnering with the Police by promptly reporting suspicious movements or activities within their communities,” Daso stated.
