The Lagos State Government has sealed off a school, Global International College in Ikate-Elegushi, Lekki over an alleged illegal discharge of untreated wastewater and faecal sludge into public drainage channels.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the closure of the school in a statement on his official X account on Saturday.
According to Wahab, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources carried out the enforcement action.
“The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office on Saturday, 5th July 2025, sealed off Global International College for deliberately discharging untreated faecal sludge and wastewater into the public drains via a pumping machine, thereby causing public nuisance, pollution, and endangering human life,” Wahab said.
The commissioner said the school had failed to desist from this act even after being cautioned by the agency.
Wahab, in the statement, enjoined Lagosians to embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability.
“All environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and or prosecution,” he stated.
