Gunmen have abducted Yahya Abubakar, village head of Zira in Toro LGA of Bauchi state, and his son.

Ahmed Wakil, spokesman of the state police command, confirmed the news on Monday.

According to him, the gunmen attacked the village which shares boundary with Plateau state around 2am on Saturday.

Wakil said the police search team is already conducting a rescue operation for the victims and is on the trail of the gunmen.

“The command has since dispatched a team of detectives and other police officers to rescue the victims and presently our men are combing the bush in search of the abducted victims,” he said.

“We assure residents that the abducted persons shall soon be rescued.”

The spokesman appealed to the public to remain calm, go about their business and cooperate with the police.

He also called on the public to report any suspected movement of people to security agencies in the area.
