Ajetsibo Emami and Solomon Akpomuai, two drug barons have been jailed by the Federal High Court in Lagos for illicit drug deal.

On August 18, Justice Deinde Dipeolu convicted 37-year-old Emami on a one-count charge of drug dealing and sentenced him to six years in prison, with an option of a ₦50 million fine in lieu of imprisonment.

Ajetsibo Emami was arrested in Ikeja, Lagos, on June 28, 2025, after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) dismantled a trafficking syndicate in a three-day raid.

During the operation, 24 “jumbo” bags containing 681 pouches of Canadian Loud and other strains of cannabis, weighing 414.2 kilograms, were recovered.

Delivering a separate judgement, Dipeolu sentenced Akpomuai, 51, to four years’ imprisonment, also with an option of a ₦50 million fine.

Solomon Akpomuai was apprehended on June 3 along the Shagamu-Ijebu-Ode expressway by customs officers, who intercepted 2,197.8 kilograms of skunk (a potent strain of cannabis).

He was later handed over to the NDLEA and arraigned for trafficking illicit drugs in commercial quantities.

Commenting on the verdict, NDLEA chairman Buba Marwa said, “the conviction of the two drug kingpins indicates that Nigeria will soon surmount the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.”
