The All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to make an announcement on key decisions today after the governors elected on the party’s platform held a high-level strategic meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday night.
The closed-door engagement involving the APC governors and President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja was held just hours before the party’s much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) and Imo State Governor, did not give the details of their meeting with Tinubu.
Uzodimma said that the decisions and developments reached at the meeting with Tinubu would be unveiled during today’s NEC gathering.
“We cannot say what will happen until we get there tomorrow (Thursday),” the Imo State Governor said.
According to Uzodimma, the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to align sub-national leadership with the priorities and direction of the president, both in terms of governance and the internal affairs of the APC.
“As governors elected under the APC platform, we are part of a sub-national governance structure and the third tier of government. It is important for us to routinely consult with the President, who is the national leader of our party,” he said.
“The APC Governors Forum held a strategic meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja. It was a constructive and convenient discussion aimed at strengthening the party and enhancing its capacity to deliver on the promises of good governance to Nigerians.”
Asked whether the NEC meeting would witness the emergence of new party leadership or resolve pending internal issues, Uzodimma asked for patience, saying, “Let us wait until tomorrow; everything will become clearer then.”
The NEC, the party’s highest decision-making body after the national convention, is expected to deliberate on a wide range of pressing matters, including internal restructuring, reconciliation efforts, policy direction, and possibly the confirmation of key appointments within the APC hierarchy.
The outcome of Thursday’s meeting could have significant implications for the ruling party as it navigates the current political landscape, seeks to consolidate internal unity, and reaffirms its governance roadmap under the Tinubu administration.
