Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu has pleaded with the United Kingdom (UK) to send Kemi Badenoch, the British Conservative Party leader, “home for proper re-education.”

Onanuga made the plea in a post on his official X account on Tuesday, saying that Badenoch had expressed ignorance of Nigerian laws on citizenship.

His reaction came following Badenoch’s interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, where she expressed her inability to pass Nigerian citizenship to her children because of her gender.

“It’s virtually impossible, for example, to get Nigerian citizenship. I have that citizenship by virtue of my parents, I can’t give it to my children because I’m a woman,” she said.

“Yet loads of Nigerians come to the UK and stay for a relatively free period of time, acquire British citizenship. We need to stop being naive.”

Badenoch’s claim is, however, contrary to section 25(1)(c) of the Nigerian Constitution which states that a person born outside the country is a citizen of Nigeria if either of their parents is Nigerian.

Onanuga, reacting to Badenoch’s claims, said she lied and that she owes her fatherland some apology, while calling on the UK government to send her back to Nigeria.

“Britain should send our lost daughter Kemi Badenoch home for a proper re-education,” Onanuga said.
