The government of Lagos State has confirmed that Whitney Adeniran, the late 12-year-old student of Chrisland Schools in Opebi, Ikeja Lagos died from Asphyxia and electrocution.

This is contrary to the claim by the school that the Whitney slumped and died during the school’s inter house sports competition.

Recall that THE WITNESS had earlier reported that Whitney’s father, Dr. Michael Adeniran, claimed that his daughter died of electrocution prior to the autopsy.

But the school management in a statement, had said that the deceased slumped in “public view and not under any hidden circumstances,” adding that she was rushed to the nearest medical facility for first aid.

However, confirming her father’s side of the story, the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo in a statement on Thursday, said an autopsy has revealed the cause of her death.

“The Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice has received the Post Mortem report dated 1st of March, 2023, issued by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, in respect of Adeniran Omodesola Whitney, who was until her demise, a student of Chrisland School, Opebi,” the statement said.

“The post-mortem report revealed the cause of death to be Asphyxia and electrocution. The Directorate of Public Prosecutions has been instructed to immediately issue Legal Advice on the matter.

“We use this medium to commensurate with Whitney’s family, even as we reassure Lagosians that anybody found culpable would immediately be charged to court.”
