A former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has emerged as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by consensus.

The governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, announced the decision of PDP stakeholders to adopt Turaki as the party’s new helmsman at about 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday night in Abuja.

According to Governor Fintiri, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria emerged after broad consultations among PDP Northern stakeholders.

Among those present at the stakeholders’ meeting where the decision was reached were the incumbent PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum; Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal; former Information Minister, Prof. Jerry Gana; and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

Others include former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Kaduna State Governors, Ibrahim Shekarau and Ahmed Makarfi; as well as the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, among others.
