President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm Taiwo Oyedele as a minister.

Tinubu had on March 3 nominated Oyedele, who currently chairs the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms, as minister of state for finance.

Oyedele is expected to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been moved to the ministry of budget and planning as minister of state.

The request for confirmation was conveyed in a letter read during plenary on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

In the letter, Tinubu said the nomination was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

“In compliance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate for confirmation the nomination of Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read.

Tinubu expressed hope that the Senate would give the request speedy consideration.

Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative consideration.
