Grief and heartfelt tributes marked the burial of Alex Ikenna Ekubo Okwaraeke, popular Nollywood actor as family members, government officials, colleagues and admirers gathered in his hometown of Ujari, Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State, to pay their final respects.

The celebrated actor, who died at the age of 40 after a prolonged battle with kidney cancer, was laid to rest amid emotional tributes and prayers from admirers who came from different parts of the country to honour his memory.

Representing Governor Alex Otti at the burial ceremony, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, the chief of staff described Ekubo’s death as a painful loss to Abia State, Nollywood and millions of fans across the world.

According to him, the late actor distinguished himself not only as an entertainer but also as a worthy ambassador who projected the image of Abia State and Nigeria positively through his work in the film industry.

Ajagba said Ekubo’s life and career embodied resilience, creativity and excellence, adding that he inspired many young people to pursue their dreams without limits.

Delivering a sermon during the funeral service, the Lead Pastor of Streams of Joy International, Umuahia, Pastor Eno Jerry Eze, urged mourners to focus on living impactful lives, stressing that legacy is more important than longevity.

He encouraged the bereaved family to draw strength from the positive impact the actor made during his lifetime.

Several Nollywood stars who attended the burial paid glowing tributes to the late actor. Actress Joyce Kanu described him as cheerful, kind-hearted and easy to work with, while actor Stan Nze said his death was a painful reminder of life’s uncertainty.

Another actress, Oluchi Chiana, popularly known as Stainless, recalled Ekubo’s generosity and willingness to support younger colleagues in the industry.

The funeral attracted a host of notable personalities, including actors Ini Edo and Omoni Oboli, socialite Pretty Mike, businessman Obi Cubana, as well as leaders from various sectors who came to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Nollywood’s most admired stars.

Ekubo rose to fame through numerous successful Nollywood productions and earned a reputation for his charisma, professionalism and versatility, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of actors and filmmakers.
