Police refute video linking IGP to political ambitions in Ogun

The Nigeria Police Force has refuted a misleading video falsely linking Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), to political ambitions in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesman of the Nigerian Police in a statement on Wednesday night said the video features a doctored billboard.
According to Adejobi, the video is baseless and clearly aimed at misleading the public and dragging the apolitical office of IGP Egbetokun into partisan politics.
“To set the record straight, two screenshots have been provided for public clarity: the first shows the original state of the area, including the actual billboard in that space – verifiable and unchanged,” Adejobi said.
“The second reveals the altered video with a fake campaign billboard inserted – an obvious manipulation.”
The police spokesman clarified that the IGP has never expressed any political interest and remains fully committed to his constitutional duties.
According to Adejobi, this is yet another reminder of the dangers of misinformation.
“We urge the public to always verify facts before sharing, and restate that those behind this deliberate falsehood will be identified and held accountable in accordance with the law,” he said.
