The Kano State Police Command says three people have been arrested after a deadly clash between rival ‘Yan Daba’ groups in Kabara and Magashi areas of Kano city.
The clash, which claimed one life and left two other persons injured, reportedly broke out at about 10:53pm on Wednesday.
Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, police public relations officer, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, describing the incident as a violent turf battle that disrupted public peace.
According to the police, the confrontation was allegedly spearheaded by “Usaini Noni of Kabara Quarters and Umar Tautau of Magashi Quarters”, with residents subjected to what the command described as terror.
The violence led to the death of Adam Badamasi, popularly known as Choli, while Ahmed Basiru and Akilu Usman sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Kiyawa said that “upon receipt of the report, combined teams of police officers swiftly responded to the incident”, adding that security operatives immediately sealed off the affected areas.
He stated that three suspects — Bazallahi Umar, 20, Abdullahi Umar, 20, and Abubakar Sani, 23 — were arrested in connection with the clash.
The injured victims were conveyed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention, where “one was certified dead.”
The police spokesperson noted that “police operations were sustained in the area, and normalcy was restored” after the intervention.
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commissioner of police, has “directed that a discreet investigation be conducted with a view to bringing the perpetrators to justice,” according to the statement.
The command reiterated its resolve to safeguard lives and property across the state and called on residents to continue supporting security agencies with prompt and credible information.
