Olasijibomi Ogundele, the embattled founder of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited, has now spent his third night in detention at the Enugu zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged ₦5.7 billion fraud.
Ogundele, whose firm has been locked in a Smart School project dispute with the Enugu State Government pending before the Enugu State High Court since June 2025, was recently declared wanted by the EFCC in connection with the case.
On Monday, September 8, 2025, he appeared at the EFCC Enugu office but was subsequently detained.
The Witness had reported that Olasijibomi Ogundele was interrogated for several hours at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja over allegations of diverting N5.7 billion belonging to the Enugu State Government. He was questioned until around 8 pm on Monday after turning himself in following his declaration as wanted.
A source within the commission disclosed that the EFCC had already frozen Ogundele’s personal and company accounts and seized his passport to restrict his movement.
“The Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited has surrendered to our commission, and we immediately took him into custody. For more than 10 hours, we have been questioning him based on the petition of the Enugu State Government,” the source said.
The controversy traces back to an N11 billion contract awarded to Sujimoto by the Enugu State Government. While the initial agreement approved a 30 percent upfront payment, Ogundele allegedly lobbied for 50 percent to accelerate delivery. The state subsequently released N5.7 billion, representing half of the total contract sum.
However, the government’s petition claims that the actual value of work delivered on site was only about N750 million. Officials accuse Ogundele of abandoning the project, failing to return to site, and ignoring accountability measures despite repeated reminders.
After allegedly snubbing several EFCC invitations, Ogundele was declared wanted before eventually surrendering to the anti-graft agency.
