The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) on Monday, donated 35 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG)
The presentation ceremony, which took place at the NNPC Ltd. Towers in Abuja, heralded collaboration between the national oil company and the federal government’s initiative to expand the use of cleaner energy in Nigeria’s transport sector.
The buses were handed over by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, and received by the Chief Executive Officer of Pi-CNG, Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ojulari said the gesture is part of NNPC Ltd.’s broader commitment to promoting gas utilisation as an alternative to traditional fuels.
He maintained that the buses will support the national objective of improving energy affordability and reducing dependence on petroleum-based fuels.
In his remarks, Oluwagbemi expressed gratitude to NNPCL for its exemplary gesture and assured that the buses would be deployed to enhance the implementation of Pi-CNG’s mandate to provide cleaner and more cost-effective transport solutions across the country.
The handover is part of ongoing efforts to drive Nigeria’s energy transition and achieve long-term environmental and economic sustainability through the use of CNG in mass transit.
