Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra State, on Thursday stunned attendees at the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting just hours after regaining his freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Ngige, who served as minister of labour and employment between 2015 and 2023, had been in custody over corruption allegations filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ngige was granted bail earlier on Thursday, and he was able to fulfil the bail conditions.
In a dramatic turn, the former minister arrived at the State House Conference Centre moments after President Bola Tinubu took his seat for the meeting.
Security operatives initially barred him from entering the hall, but he was later cleared and allowed to join other party leaders.
His appearance drew cheers and applause from some presidential aides, adding to the surprise surrounding his arrival.
Ngige is facing allegations of abuse of office, including claims that he granted undue favours to associates through contract awards during his tenure in office.
He is also accused of receiving gifts valued at millions of naira through organisations allegedly linked to him while serving as minister.
The case has been adjourned to a later date for continuation of trial, leaving political observers closely watching what may unfold next in the high-profile prosecution involving the APC chieftain.
