Moroccan authorities have requested prison sentences of up to two years for 18 Senegalese supporters detained after last month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) final in Rabat.
According to prosecutors, the group engaged in violent behaviour and attempted to disrupt the match, with some actions captured live on television.
The fans, however, deny any wrongdoing and have been held in pre-trial detention since January 18, when Senegal beat Morocco 1-0.
Evidence presented includes stadium surveillance footage and medical reports documenting injuries to security staff.
The authorities also said property damage at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium exceeded four million Moroccan dirhams.
Following the incident, officials emphasised that the fans’ behaviour amounted to hooliganism, highlighting the need for stricter crowd control at major sporting events.
Morocco will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
