The Lagos State government has shut down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market located along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road over breaches of environmental regulations.
The development was disclosed on Sunday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via a post on X.
He wrote, “Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”
The Ladipo market, a major spare parts trading hub in Mushin, was sealed as part of the state government’s sustained enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring adherence to environmental laws, curbing street trading, and addressing improper waste disposal.
The market has a history of facing sanctions over similar environmental violations.
In 2023, Lagos State Government reopened Ladipo Market after the traders met the required environmental and sanitation conditions.
