A video and photographs showing Chief Willie Obiano, former governor of Anambra State, in the custody of the the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have surfaced online.

In the 20 seconds video Obiano who handed over to Charles Soludo on Thursday, is seen drinking bottled water while sitting on one of the chairs at the commission’s Abuja office.

The former governor who is on a pair of shorts and a stripe T-shirt was having a conversation with an unidentified person.

The Witness had reported that Obiano was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos while trying to fly to the United States after handing to Soludo.

The commission, according to sources, is investigating the former governor for withdrawing N37 billion of state funds in cash, among other alleged grafts.

The News Agency of Nigeria in a report on Saturday quoted an anonymous EFCC source in Abuja to have disclosed that the former governor was being interrogated over alleged misapplication of N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion security vote, withdrawn in cash.

Part of the funds were also allegedly diverted to finance political activities in the state, the source further mentioned.

Though reports emerged on Friday morning to the effect that he had been released, findings by THE WITNESS had suggested that he was actually transferred from Lagos to Abuja.

The commission subsequently confirmed the report through its spokesman, Wilson Uwajeren.

“The former governor is currently in our custody undergoing interrogation and I cannot say exactly when he will be released. I don’t know how long the exercise will take,” Uwajeren said on Friday.

“All I can tell you now is that he is still in the EFCC custody in Abuja,” he said.
