The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM 1, will be blacklisted for six months over his behavior at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s director of public affairs and consumer protection made the disclosure during a press briefing on Thursday.
“Wasiu Ayinde will be blacklisted for six months due to his conduct at the airport,” he said.
“What I must assure the general public is that everybody involved in this will be brought to book,” Achimugu said.
“As we speak, the passenger is going to be blacklisted for the next six months flying in Nigeria.
“Aviation rules are made for everybody, for the protection of everybody. These rules are global. There is nothing about the rules that is to antagonise any passenger.
“So, we will do everything we can to get to the root of it. Everybody who needs to be punished or sanctioned will receive justice.”
He also revealed that the NCAA is in the process of writing to the attorney-general of the federation and the inspector-general of police to initiate legal action against Ayinde.
When asked if Kwam 1 would be spared prosecution because of his ties to President Bola Tinubu, the director responded that Tinubu and Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, are firmly committed to upholding the rule of law, adding that no individual — regardless of status — is above due process.
On August 5, the NCAA suspended two ValueJet pilots for a safety violation at the airport’s domestic terminal.
The authority said its initial investigation revealed the pilots began departure procedures from their designated bay without obtaining the required pre-departure clearance.
According to NCAA, this reckless move endangered ground personnel and other airport users, breaching both local civil aviation rules and international safety standards.
This newspaper had reported that the pilots’ suspension was connected to the unruly behavior of the Fuji musician onboard the aircraft.
The report indicated the artist was seen drinking from a flask, which led a flight attendant to step in due to concerns it contained alcohol — a banned substance on Nigerian flights.
