The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the 2027 presidential and national assembly elections will take place on February 20, 2027, while governorship and state houses of assembly elections are slated for March 6, 2027.

Prof. Joash Amupitan, INEC chairman, revealed the election timetable during a press briefing held in Abuja on Friday.

The announcement comes amid rising concerns about the delayed passage of the amended Electoral Act, which is currently before the National Assembly.

On February 4, INEC had stated that it had finalised the election timetable and schedule of activities despite the delay in the amendment process.

The commission explained that the timetable had already been submitted to lawmakers but warned that certain aspects of the schedule could be adjusted depending on when the amended Electoral Act is passed.
