The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have departed London, United Kingdom, for Daura, Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest with full state honours.

“The body of the late president was conveyed on a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) craft on Tuesday before 8 a.m.”

Accompanying the remains on the flight were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and several other top government officials.

Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. in a London hospital, following a prolonged illness, the exact nature of which was not made public. He was 82 years old.

“President Bola Tinubu is expected to receive the body of the late president in Katsina by Tuesday noon.”

In honour of the late statesman, the Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to mark the state burial in Buhari’s rustic hometown of Daura.
