The Independent National Electoral Commission has started deploying sensitive materials for Saturday’s Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
The handover took place at the old CBN facility in Garki under tight security, with party agents, observers, civil society groups and journalists present to monitor the exercise.
Materials received include ballot papers, result sheets and Bimodal Voter Accreditation System devices.
Mallam Aminu Idris, FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner said stakeholders were invited to ensure transparency and accountability in the process.
He disclosed that security agencies had been mobilised to escort the materials to the six Area Council offices, while onward distribution to Registration Area Centres will commence on Friday.
Idris urged residents to participate in the polls, assuring them of the commission’s readiness to conduct a peaceful and credible election.
Joash Amupitan, INEC Chairman also reiterated the commission’s neutrality, warning political actors against vote-buying and other electoral offences.
He said logistics and security arrangements had been carefully planned to protect voters and ensure every valid vote is counted.
With the deployment underway, INEC says preparations are on track for the conduct of the elections across the FCT.
