Olubunmi Akinnaanu, the Nigerian gospel singer widely recognised for her inspirational hit song ‘Omije Ojumi’, has passed away.

The announcement was made on Tuesday through a brief message shared on Instagram by fellow gospel artiste Ayo Melody, who posted on behalf of the family.

The update, accompanied by a photo of the late musician and a video showing her remains  confirmed that she died in a Lagos hospital.

“With great sadness 💔😭 we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria,” it reads.

“May God grant her eternal rest 🙏.”

Bunmi’s passing follows months of public requests for prayers and divine intervention as she dealt with a troubling leg condition.

Her health challenge became public in October 2025 during a service at G.F David Ministries in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

A circulated video showed the ‘Omije Ojumi’ crooner seated with her leg elevated on a chair while a pastor offered prayers on her behalf.

An intravenous (IV) cannula could be seen inserted in her hand, highlighting how serious her health battle had become.

During the service, the cleric told the congregation that Bunmi had been dealing with persistent bleeding from her leg, describing the problem as a spiritual attack and calling it an “arrow”.

He prayed fervently against what he referred to as the “spirit of death,” declaring that it should depart from her body.

Akinnaanu began singing at just 10 years old before later leaving a career in banking to focus fully on gospel music.

She gained fame through ‘Omije Ojumi’, the emotional worship song that resonated deeply with Christians across Nigeria and remains popular in churches and homes nationwide.
