Justice Amina Bello of the Kaduna State High Court has sentenced one Zeal Abraham to prison for internet fraud.

Abraham was arraigned by the Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge bordering on impersonation and cheating to the tune of $200 (Two Hundred United States Dollars).

The charge reads: “That you Zeal Abraham (a.k.a Chris Mitchell) (m), sometime in 2025 at Kaduna within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, cheated one Laura Moss of the total sum of $200 USD (Two Hundred United States Dollars only), when you pretended to be Chris Mitchell; a musician on ‘Zangi’ (an online social media application), which you knew to be false and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 308 of the Kaduna Penal Code Law of 2017 and punishable under Section 309 of the same law.”

He pleaded “guilty,” following which the prosecution counsel, M.E. Eimonye, urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.

Justice Bello then convicted and sentenced Abraham to two years imprisonment or an option of a ₦400,000 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira) fine.

Additionally, he was ordered to forfeit a Samsung G9355 mobile phone, which was used to commit the offence, and the $200 proceeds of the crime to the federal government.

The convict was among suspects arrested by EFCC operatives along Sabo, Post Office Road in Kaduna, following credible intelligence on their fraudulent internet activities.
