Public and corporate activities in Kano came to a standstill as Nigeria mourned the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in a London hospital.
Buhari’s passing is seen as a major loss, particularly in Kano, where he held significant political influence. In the 2015 general election, he received 59 percent of the vote in the state, totalling over 1.6 million.
While he was buried in Daura, about 120 kilometers away, the mood in Kano was reflective as Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf and other dignitaries attended the burial to pay their last respects.
The Federal Government and the Northwestern governors declared a public holiday, further halting activities in Kano.
