Teachers under the National Union of Teachers (NUT) on Thursday took to the streets of Ibadan, Oyo State, in protest over the abduction of students and teachers in the state.

The protesters gathered at the busy Iwo Road axis, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with inscriptions such as “bring back our children, no more bandits” as they demanded urgent government action.

The protest follows the May 15 attack in Esiele, Oriire Local Government Area, where armed kidnappers reportedly invaded a school community and abducted over 40 students and teachers.

Reports indicate that the abductors later released footage showing victims held in captivity deep inside a forest.

With the victims still unaccounted for weeks after the incident, teachers in the state said they were compelled to take to the streets to press for swift intervention from authorities.

The protest comes days after a similar demonstration by concerned residents over the same incident, as pressure continues to mount on security agencies and government authorities to secure the release of the abducted victims.
