Yusuf Tuggar, minister of foreign affairs, has confirmed that Nigerian soldiers recently released by authorities in Burkina Faso have arrived safely at an Air Force base in Accra, Ghana.

The minister made the disclosure in a message posted on X on Friday evening.

“I can confirm that the pilots and crew of NAF C-130 (913) have safely arrived at the Air Force Base in Accra. The successful outcome reflects Nigeria’s commitment to diplomacy, regional cooperation, and the leadership of @NGRPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR @officialABAT , in resolving sensitive matters through dialogue,” he wrote.

The military personnel were taken into custody by Burkina Faso’s ruling authorities after their aircraft made an unscheduled landing in the country.

They were, however, released on Wednesday, December 17, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, who authorised a high-level delegation led by Tuggar to engage Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso’s junta leader.

Alkasim Abdulkadir, spokesperson to Tuggar, said both sides reached a mutual understanding that resolved the concerns surrounding the Nigerian Air Force crew.
