The acting inspector-general of police, Tunji Disu, has officially assumed duty following his decoration earlier on Wednesday.
Disu resumed duties at the force headquarters in Abuja shortly after being decorated by President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa.
He took his first official salute as inspector-general from members of the quarter guard and other police officers after arriving at the headquarters at about 4:25 p.m.
The development followed the resignation of former inspector-general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, who stepped down on Tuesday, citing family reasons.
After the ceremonial salute, Disu and Egbetokun proceeded to the official handover ceremony witnessed by senior police officers, including deputy inspectors-general of police.
Egbetokun, who was appointed inspector-general of police on June 19, 2023, handed over leadership of the Nigeria police force to Disu after nearly three years in office.
