Bandits on Sunday killed an official of Union Bank and abducted another along the Gusau–Funtua highway in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident occurred at about 2:40 p.m. in Kucheri village when the attackers opened fire on a moving GAC SUG vehicle with registration number BDG 251 HZ.

Sources revealed that the vehicle was conveying two Union Bank officials: Zakari Leo, the regional manager, and Muhammad Sani Suleman. Both were attached to the bank’s Yakubu Gowon Way branch in Kaduna State.

Security operatives were immediately deployed to the scene.

During a search operation in the nearby bushes, Mr. Leo was found alive and rescued. Suleman, however, suffered severe gunshot injuries and was initially taken to the General Hospital in Tsafe before being referred to the Ahmed Sani Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau. He was declared dead on arrival.

His remains have since been handed over to Union Bank’s Gusau branch for burial arrangements.

This attack adds to the rising wave of insecurity in the North-West region, where criminal elements continue to target highways, communities, and key infrastructure with increasing frequency.
