The Ogun State Police Command has arrested the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in a crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway that injured world boxing champion Anthony Joshua and claimed the lives of two others.

Oluseyi Babaseyi, Police spokesperson stated on Thursday that the driver is currently in custody as investigations continue.

The accident occurred on Monday around Danco, when Joshua’s vehicle, a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN, collided with a stationary truck.

The crash resulted in the deaths of Ayodele Kelvin Olu (36), a Nigerian/British citizen, and Gami Sina (36), a British citizen.

Joshua, who survived the crash along with his mother and two other passengers, was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, late Wednesday after doctors confirmed he was clinically fit to continue recovery at home.

In a joint statement, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu extended condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for strength for their loved ones. They also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and the public for their concern and prayers.

Anthony Joshua and his mother reportedly visited a Lagos funeral home on Wednesday to pay their final respects to the two late friends, whose bodies were being prepared for repatriation.

The state governments commended medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital for their professionalism and dedication in treating Joshua and other injured victims of the accident.
