Agbu Kefas, Taraba State governor has denied allegations that financial inducement influenced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Villa in Abuja after meeting President Bola Tinubu, Kefas insisted his defection was guided strictly by what he believes is in the best interest of Taraba State.

According to him, “My decision was based on what is best for Taraba State and its future. Nobody gave me money to defect to the APC.”

The governor described his move as a strategic step aimed at strengthening cooperation with the Federal Government and improving development outcomes for the state.

Kefas expressed confidence in delivering Taraba to the president, citing grassroots engagement and ongoing projects across the state.

“We have done our mapping and planning. I am on the ground with the people, and they are with me. Delivering Mr President and myself will not be difficult. Taraba is for him, and he will get nothing less than 100 per cent,” he declared.

Kefas said his discussion with Tinubu focused on security, agriculture, and social welfare, adding that the meeting would enhance collaboration between the state and the federal government.

He also urged residents to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that the overlapping Christian Lenten season and Muslim Ramadan period offers a moment for reflection and renewed commitment to national development.

Kefas, elected under the PDP in 2023, formally completed his switch to the APC on January 31, 2026, after an earlier planned date was postponed.
