The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSRRS) has confirmed the successful rescue of a 56-year-old man who became trapped in a well.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Maria Fadairo, the agency’s senior public affairs officer, said the incident occurred over the weekend at House 12, Aiyeola Street, off Governor Road, Molad Bus Stop, within the Ikotun-Igando Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Fadairo explained that the Ejigbo fire station received a distress call and promptly deployed a rescue team to the location.

She said the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was reportedly working inside the well—estimated to be 80 feet deep—when he became trapped.

According to the LSRRS spokesperson, the well is located at the rear of a bungalow comprising eight rooms on a 648-square metre plot.

“The victim was successfully rescued alive through the coordinated efforts of the firefighters,” the statement reads.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident may have resulted from negligence.”

Margaret Adeseye, director of the fire service, appealed to Lagos residents to notify the agency whenever potentially hazardous work is taking place.

Adeseye emphasized that such notifications would allow for the implementation of appropriate safety measures, including standby support, to prevent life-threatening emergencies.
