The Kano State Fire Service and the Red Cross have intensified rescue operations with officials working throughout the night at the collapsed three-storey building in the Abedi area of Sabongari, Kano State, following a heavy downpour on Sunday evening.

Reports say fewer than 15 people were reported trapped under the concrete debris.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the structure, which was under construction, collapsed at about 8 p.m. on Sunday during a heavy rainfall, causing innocent people to take cover from the heavy downpour.

Officials of the State Emergency Management Agency and Federal Fire Service were seen around, along with heavily armed police officers.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of people rescued remains unknown.

This incident comes less than a year after a similar building collapse in the same Sabongari area claimed the lives of four children from one family.
