Police nab five kidnappers in Oyo, recover ₦4.6m ransom

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested five suspects allegedly involved in the June 26 abduction of one Mr. Timothy in Mokorede, Ipapo, in the Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement signed by  CSP Adewale Osifeso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer,  the police also recovered a sum of ₦4,618,700, which was the part payment of the ransom paid by the victim’s families

Osifeso revealed that six armed men stormed the victim’s residence and abducted him around 11 p.m.
The statement revealed that the Divisional Police Officer in Ipapo mobilised personnel, including operatives from the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), local hunters, and Fulani vigilante groups swung into action following a distress call.
Recall police operatives from Okaka Division arrested five men in the Okaka community on June 30, where they were allegedly caught sharing the ransom money received from the victim’s family.
The suspects, who are currently in custody, were identified as Usman Abubakar (30), Umar Abubakar (21), Abdulkadir Sulaiman (22), Abdullahi Naira (23), and Isiaku Saboyaro (30).
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the abduction and detailed how the crime was carried out.
“They confirmed that they acted in concert with a sixth person known as ‘Wetti,’ who remains at large
“Command stated that the police are actively working to capture the fleeing suspect and have requested that the public provide any helpful information that could aid in the investigation,” the statement said.
