Sixteen people narrowly escaped death on Monday night following a crash involving a Toyota Camry, a Suzuki minibus, and a tricycle along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, near Iron Market.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Ota Divisional Commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr. Salau Hammed, said the accident occurred around 8:20 p.m.

According to him, the crash involved a Camry with no registration number, a tricycle also unregistered, and a Suzuki bus with plate number KRD 246 YK.

Hammed disclosed that a total of 16 persons were involved in the crash, out of which three people — two males and one female — sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“Those who sustained injuries were immediately taken to Adetutu Hospital, Ilepa area for treatment,” he said.

Giving details of the cause, the TRACE official explained that the Camry lost control due to excessive speed and crashed into the two other vehicles.

“The Camry lost control due to speeding and rammed into two other vehicles,” Hammed said.

He also advised motorists to avoid reckless driving, especially speeding, to prevent such avoidable accidents.

“Speeding is a major cause of road crashes. Motorists must drive responsibly to stay safe,” he cautioned.

Hammed added that all vehicles involved in the crash had been removed from the road to restore free flow of traffic.
