Nyesom Wike, Rivers State governor, has taken a dig at a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who he tagged a ‘rapist’, present at an event in Kano State on Monday where Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, was received into the party from the NNPP.
Recall THE WITNESS reported that the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other party chieftains, on Monday, welcomed the former governor back to the party in Kano.
Some of the party big wigs present at the event include former Vice President, Namadi Sambo; Chairman BoT, Jibrin Walid; National Chairman, Iyiorchia Ayu, and Atiku’s running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa.
Other chieftains include former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido; former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi among others.
The Rivers governor spoke on Tuesday during the commissioning of the Ogbunabali Sandfilled Area in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
He accused this unnamed ‘rapist’ of not putting effort into persuading others to join the PDP but is quite comfortable with liking “when food is ready.”
He said, “Anywhere any true Rivers man is, you must show that you are important, you must show that you have something to offer and not to do houseboy, we don’t belong to the houseboys; we are not known to be that.
“So, all of you, continue to show that you are not a second-class citizen in any state or any zone,” he said.
“The only thing you can gain when you betray your people is that you will come back empty handed.
“I was watching the television yesterday and I saw where they went to Shekarau in Kano. Fine, I saw one rapist from Rivers State. He is a rapist from Rivers State. He was sitting at the back where they went to receive Shekarau. But I ask him, how many people have you made to join your party?”
While responding to an interview granted by former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, where he (Markarfi) lashed at the Rivers governor, Wike said he should rather focus on delivering his state for the PDP in the 2023 general elections.
He said, “This morning I was watching television when I saw a former acting chairman of the party, Ahmed Makarfi, and he said he is very close to me but I don’t know how close he is to me. I don’t know when last we spoke. I’ve never spoken to him for the past five months. So, if you are close to somebody politically, there is no how you won’t have spoken to the person.
“What I want to advise Makarfi is: Look, you have a job, make sure PDP wins Kaduna State. Leave Wike. Make sure PDP wins in Kaduna State, I don’t want to hear excuses.”
