Chidinma Ojukwu, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) student who confessed to the killing of Usifo Ataga, Super TV CEO, says she withdrew money from the deceased’s account to pay “fees” and “start up a business”.
On June 24, Chidinma was paraded at the state police command for the murder of the businessman while she alleged that he forcefully had sex with her.
According to Hakeem Odumosu, the state commissioner of police, the accused also withdrew N5 million from Ataga’s bank accounts following his death.
Chidinma has now revealed why she withdrew the money from the businessman’s bank accounts.
She opened on her intentions while speaking with PUNCH on Sunday.
The 21-year-old however maintained that the murder was an accident.
“I didn’t plan on killing anybody. It was just to get money from him. I totally regret everything I did,” Chidinma said.
“After the incident happened that I withdraw the money, the purpose was to use it for my fees and start up a business.”
The accused then added that paying schools fees had become difficult for her, saying that the financial hardship had been a reason for truancy in school.
“There are lots of times that the school fees weren’t there, and it was a struggle to complete it,” she said
“The reason why I have been absent from school is because of finance, and secondly, I was just feeling reluctant to go back to school. I wanted to do online schooling so that I could join it with my business when I start up my business.”
