William Troost-Ekong, the stand-in captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, has apologised to Nigerians for failing to secure the Qatar 2022 World Cup ticket.
The Super Eagles drew 1- 1 against the Black Stars of Ghana in Abuja on Tuesday night after a goalless draw in Accra on Friday, which meant that the Ghanaians scaled through on away goal advantage.
The Nigerian teams captain who took to his Instagram page to tender an apology to Nigerians over the failure, assured that the team will be back better and stronger.
“To all Nigerians, on behalf of the team, we want to apologise for not securing the World Cup ticket. Despite giving it everything possible, it wasn’t meant to be,” he wrote.
“First and foremost, as Nigerians, we share your emotions and we take our responsibility as a group.
“We sincerely thank the Nigerian fans for their overwhelming support, the NFF President who did everything possible to make the qualification happen and of course the Minister.
“A bitter pill to swallow but believe me we will be back better and stronger!”
