Southern and Middle Belt leaders under the umbrella of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBL) are currently meeting with Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos.

The forum which has Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, PANDEF and Middle Belt Forum as members had consistently insisted on power shift to the Southeast in 2023, and had rejected the choice of Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate.
