The House of Representatives has called for the prosecution of the General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ibrahim Bagugu, and other staff of the corporation over the award of $1million audit contract.
The call followed the adoption of the report of the House committee on Gas Resource by the Committee of the whole on Thursday.
The committee chaired by Fred Agbedi (PDP, Bayelsa) recommended the apprehension and prosecution of some retired and current staff of NNPC for allegedly awarding contract to an illegal entity.
The house declared that the “supposed entity called Diakrino Services Limited which was engaged by NNPC/NAPIMS to conduct a Value for Money (VFM) audit at the cost of USD$1m was not a legal entity as was confirmed by the Committee from a search at the Corporate Affairs Commission.”
The green chamber resolved that the total contract sum awarded to Diakrino Services Limited should be paid back to the Federation Account.
The staff affected are; Mr. Oladipo Sowande Project Manager (Retired), Mr. Paul Duru Ajisafe – GM, Gas (Retired), Mr. Ibrahim Bagudu – General Manager, NNPC, Mr. Ahmed Shehu – GM, Gas (Retired) and Mrs. Victoria Akpomudje – General Manager, Gas & Power of NNPC/NAPIMS.
The lower chamber urged NNPC/NAPIMS to ensure that contracts awarded meet the timeline of completion to avoid unnecessary financial burden on the Corporation.
The Committee had been mandated to investigate the contract for the modification of the EGP 3B production platform following the Joint Venture Agreement between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and Chevron Nigeria Limited.
