Pastor Timothy Olaniyan, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) who endorsed Yemi Osinbajo, a senior pastor of the church, for president in 2023, has clarified that he spoke on his personal capacity, and not on behalf of the church.
Olaniyan, who heads the church’s department of politics and governance, a department recently created to support members seeking political offices, had at the weekend, said Osinbajo would fulfill his promises if elected president, as a child of God.
The endorsement triggered a wave of criticism, with many expressing reservations over what they called an attempt by the RCCG to dabble into partisan politics.
However, Pastor Olaniyan on Monday, clarified that he was not speaking for the church but himself.
Olaniyan, who spoke at an event organised by New Era Nigeria, emphasized that he did not speak for the Church but himself.
